Music

The music curriculum at Trinity Academy St Peter’s is designed to give pupils the knowledge and skills needed to become confident and creative musicians who have a love of music.  The study of music gives pupils the opportunity to develop their critical listening skills by listening to a wide variety of music from multiple time periods and genres, and this understanding will help to inspire creativity in pupils’ own compositions.

At Trinity Academy St Peter’s, knowledge is structured so that each term and year build upon one another and ensures pupils gain the essential knowledge of musicianship within the areas of rhythm, pitch and tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture and structure and form. Pupils simultaneously develop their skills through listening, singing, improvising, performing, and composing.

Our curriculum includes music spanning a wide range of cultures and traditions which helps pupils gain an appreciation of the way that music shapes the world that we live in.

The depth of knowledge gained will give pupils the strong foundations within the study of music which not only prepares them for future study, but also empowers them to be able to appreciate music when they hear it and the confidence to be able to express themselves through it.
